I Am Accepted

November 2, 2015

I always had a giant head

that sat atop my shoulders.

Every day my mother said,

"You're quickly growing older.

Your grades are perfect, and your room

is tidier than ever.

It's so much fun to watch you bloom.

Please don't ever change. No, never!"

High school came and started out

just like I always thought it would.

But soon, we moved, and I chose to pout

and homework became a "should".

My room became a pig pen

My chores were left undone

I started to get in trouble when

I missed my curfew just for fun.

Soon my grades were in need of a savior,

My mother dissappointed.

That only fueled my serious failure,

And our relationship became disjointed.

One day we sat down to talk and mama made me cry.

She held my giant head in heads, like a balloon who longed to fly.

It had deflated, now just a shrivelled shell.

And mother said, "It was only ever filled with air - oh well.

You see, you don't have to win my LOVE, or even my approval.

No matter what you do in life, I'll never order your removal.

Accept that there is grace to be exactly who you are

and where you go from there doesn't matter, but it's sure to be somewhere far."
