Deep Breathing

October 11, 2016

Honking horns sound far away

The rush of city traffic flies by

People keep carrying on

The world keeps spinning faster

But the deer graze on the side of the freeways

Eating without a care

Watching as the world passes them by

But the dew glistens

In the early morn

Sparking in the new day’s light

But the leaves turn a pretty hue

Even as they die

Upon the branch

But the sun rises each morn

Sometimes behind clouds

Waiting for its chance to shine

And sometimes in full view

Death, destruction, heartache

Greed, terror, fear, jealousy

May all hold the world in their grasp

But not the sun’s rays

That spread a glow upon your face

But not the maple leaf or cherry blossom

That dazzle you with their rainbow of colors

Reminding you of happiness

And burden-free days

But not the deer that sits by the highway

In tranquility

Not knowing of the horrors not two feet away

Instead focusing on the here

The now

And calmly carrying on
