the duality of she.

December 26, 2019

Her familiar voice

A whisper amid dark tar

Thick and sticky

Words stick to me:

You are capable

You are powerful

You are intelligent

You are lazy

You are flawed

You have no idea

Not a single clue

Call me naive

That’s what she calls me

Yet still I trust the thoughts she places

Delicate chess pieces in a battle

Whose motive only she knows

Still I let her words caress my skin

Like snowflakes,

small and delicate

Like every small step i’ve taken

Every grain of sand, seemingly insignificant

That forms a pyramid

Every small victory in life’s battle

She reminds me

By small means great things come to pass

harsh and cold

Pins and needles

I wrap myself in warm blankets

Until their safe folds become a scalding blaze

Fueled by the memory

of past disappointments;

each one a grain of salt

Ground deeper and deeper into every cut

A goal has left on me

She tells me:

Being driven can be rewarding

Being driven can be brutal

No matter the emotion, the result is still

The same

That i’ll keep chasing my dreams

While her voice

Lifts me to a higher plane

And drags me through maelstrom

She emboldens me

Inspires me

Is me
