If you don't learn to write your own story, someone else will write it for you

10 poems·Since December 2013

I am a composite. I was born into a family of composites - one a Mexican, and one a mix of European (though mostly German/scandinavian). My favorite foods were Beans and Macaroni and Cheese, but now I don't eat dairy or meat. I grew up listening to both Silvio Rodriguez and Raffi. I have been a composite ever since. I keep collecting languages because the more I learn the fewer words seem to accurately express. I have found that art speaks to me; that words, music, and lines move me. I have found a place for composites, and that place is in this world - learning, loving, and giving. I hope to do all of these things.

one of those days

December 4, 2013

I’m having one of those days,
Those days with silver linings
The days that wear tap dancing shoes
One of those days of slow smiles.

I’m having one of those days,
Those days with rain like little dreams,
The days where everyone is beautiful,
One of those days with warm hands.

I’m having one of those days,
One of those days that smells like you
The days when I see you everywhere
The days where every set of eyes is yours.

I’m having one of those days,
Those days when I can’t help myself,
The days when everything reminds me
One of those days of being overwhelmed.

I’m having one of those days,
I’ve been having some of these days,
These days for some months now
These months when all I need know is,

what I've learned to know is,
i love you.
