The Performance

June 13, 2013
The Performance My eyes are closed. The air is thick. A scent stirs a memory in my soul. Now, my heart beats to calypso dance delivered in staccato clips Footsteps echo on wood. Focus, focus, I repeat in my head. A melody encircles me. Softly swaying, I see a subtle ocean breeze tickling sandy toes. I feel fear. Fear flowing with the bloom of the red rose of excitement. Focus, I repeat. What? I’ve forgotten everything. Everything, except the cool, salty ocean water chasing after toes in the sand. The sun warms my face. My eyes are closed. The vibration of the music is shaking me. My heartbeat pulsates like a cymbal. Reaching crescendo, my breathing consumes the space. Focus. One last memory of the ocean breeze. I open my eyes. The curtain rises. I focus. I am alive.
