i strive

January 12, 2018

As an african american black women

I strive to be a leader

Not a follower

But the next president to be

I strive

Because one day

Someone will be able to see me

No matter the hurt nor the pain

I strive so they won't down my name

But praise it up in fame

Because i made a change

I strive to be

Not the next beyonce

But like maya angelou

You see

Not the lighter the skin

Nor rate 1-10

I strive to be me

Keeping my head held high

Staying on top of everything

I strive

because my father believed in me

I was his princess getting ready to take over everything

Now i'm screaming to the top rest in peace my king

I strive

Not only for my father but for those who doubted me

Now you gotta front row seat to what i strive to be

Not only did you doubt me

But what i strive to be

Now i want you to watch me
