The smell of Thanksgiving cooking in the oven

The bubbling of the green bean casserole

The popping of the turkey frying

The sound of the water running out of the kitchen faucet onto the dirty dishes

The chatter of the family you haven’t seen or heard from in a year

The orange, brown and red leaves falling from the treetops to the despair of the browning ground

The screaming of all the men watching the football game because their favorite team scored

Everyone is doing something

But not you

You are just staring off

Not taking in the sights, sounds or smells

Your dwelling on a post that someone made on facebook

A 140 character tweet that someone tweeted

You take offense because you believe it is about you

You don’t notice your family

You don’t notice the fact that dinner is only one half hour away

You notice the words on a screen that was made by someone behind a keyboard

You notice the vague, meaningless tweet or post

You never come to think that they could be talking about someone else

You see the words “meaningless” “trash” “what a take over”

Your mind says “Oh Crap they have trash to talk, what can I say about them”

The walk from the end seat at the kitchen table to the back door is longer than you expected

No one seems to notice that you moved and that you are alive

They are all busy screaming at the television, talking about what dog they should get or watching the timer on the oven

And you?

Well you're thinking about what you can put into 140 characters

Not the beauty of who doesn’t have facebook or twitter

And who doesn’t have trash to talk

Welcome to 2015

Welcome to the era that everyone takes offense to 140 characters

Welcome to equality

Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to 20offense

Welcome to 2015

2015 is the year that a woman decided to run for president

It is the year that same sex marriage became legal

The year that you can take a picture add text on it and send it to one or multiple person with only them viewing it

The year that mocking a black boy (innocent or not) and his death became everyone’s top priority

The year that going viral made someone famous

It is also the year that you take offense to a flag, a post, tweet or how someone dresses

It is that part of the year that is coming to an end in a couple months

You open the door and feel the cold air rush

You instantly pay attention because you do not want to freeze to death

You decide that instead of going outside to create some comeback you come back in to look at what you have

You turn around and say “HI” to that cousin from some relative or is he your uncle

You walk back into the kitchen but keep going

You smile at your mom and grandma and walk into the living room

You look around and feel content and happy

Slowly taking in the sights, smells and sounds you appreciate what you have

It is only temporary and you take note of that

Realizing that if you were to tweet those 140 characters or making that post you would have stooped down to their level

You know that you are not for sure who if anyone they were talking about

The smartphone that was on and the twitter app open is now off and in your pocket

Everyone is doing something

Including you

Welcome to the end of 2015
