A Memory Never Forgotten

May 9, 2013
Tears, Cascading down my cheek, Pain, Swarming, consuming, my spirit, The words, I’m Leaving stuck in my mind. I clasp tightly to my fathers’ hand, thinking he can’t go if I hold on. I won’t be far I just won’t be here. Those are the words I held onto. The words I trusted. I hold on tighter, I wrap my legs around his, he can’t go if I’m attached to him. Smiles, Spread across my face. Nothing, Across my brothers. We opened our cards, Money, gift cards, e-mails. He knew there was a catch, I look up and see his face, still. What’s this for? He seemed angry, or confused. I’m Leaving. Again, he had already left once, again? I slid down the booth closer to him, Grabbed his hand, tight. Florida. He lied, he said he wouldn’t be far, Those words I had held onto for two years were a lie. Tears, Cascading down my cheek, Pain, Swarming, consuming, my spirit. I watched them lower him down, And all I could think of was those words that never left my mind, I’m Leaving
