Parasite

January 23, 2021

For the dozen times you entered me

I have spent the last three years

547 showers

purging myself of you

yet I am still not clean.

You are embedded in my sheets,

in my skin

I look in my mirrors and see you

over my shoulder

there is nowhere I can walk in this house alone.

How many miles must I travel till I am alone.

'Till my memory has washed away what my skin cannot

'Till hearing your name is not an all consuming experience

'Till you are not part of me.

My victories are not yours to claim, my losses are not yours to mourn.

I succeed in spite of you, not because of you and your fragile mind cannot comprehend the difference.

Every day I scratch and claw at you, my parasite, my debilitating, vile, charming parasite

to find a new host

I do not want you anymore

I do not claim as you as my own.
