On the Unavoidable Existentialism of the Cosmos

June 22, 2016

It is easy to lose oneself

gazing into the vastness of space.

The calm beating of the heart begins to mirror

the gently pulsing twinkle of the stars.

The consciousness is perfectly absorbed

into the deep void where no light can be detected.

We cannot disregard our captivation

with this cosmic birthplace

where the microscopic constituents of our existence

were created among the stardust.

As we contemplate our comparative diminutiveness,

it is a humbling thought

that we do not have the capacity to even begin

to fathom the true magnitude of the universe.

We are all merely pawns

in the never-ending game of existence.
