Broken Bones

December 17, 2013

When I say to a wicked man, “you will surely die”, and you do not warn him or speak out to dismiss him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man WILL die for his sins and I will hold you accountable for his love.

They say his name brings victory.

So I’d like to begin by saying “JEEEEEEEESSSSUUUUUUUUUSSS”

SON OF MAN. CAN THESE. BONES. LIIIIIVVVVEEEE??

You wanna breathe life into me so I could preach to these kids?

Is this the way father God I should teach these kids?

Hold up.

You want ME God to reach these kids?

Ok ok fine. But I’m not good at this gospel stuff,

What if they don’t understand me?

Should I stick to plan B,

Where I talk about girls, drugs, guns and gambling?

Should I tell them how I USED to smoke,

But then my hookah broke.

How I tried to use bible pages to roll up,

But then you was like ‘hold up’

And you sobered me up

So I could know what’s up

But it wasn’t enough

Because they gave me some cuffs

And when I got locked up

I was like “God… whatsup?

You said if I give you these chains you could let me free

I was taking you literal. Forgive. Me. Be.”

SON OF MAN. CAN THESE. BONES. LIIIIVVVEEEEE?

You see father God, the only reason I know about you is because of those Spanish people knocking on my door inviting me to church.

But you know who else knocked on my door?

Jehovah witnesses.

And my mommy told me close the door on

Jehovahs, on Christians, on catholics, on jews

On optimum, on Verizon

And everyone else who has some sort of happiness to offer me.

What I failed to realize though

Is that all these religions were inviting me to the same God.

So here I am, God.

Standing infront of MY generation, asking myself

‘How did I find you?’

I have to come to an understanding though that I wasn’t looking,

God you. Found. Me.

Look, I’m not here trying to get you saved

I look like a preacher?

All I’m saying is that God’s gonna want you one day

And when he does,

He’s gonna get you, one way or the other.

And not to sound too egocentric but,

I live in the hood.

I HAVE to get home tonight.

If I get shot…

I know where I’m going.

Because, you see, imuh be speed walking in the middle of the night

With my headphones blaring and my hood over my head

And there’s gonna be a guy standing ahead of me

About a half block away

So it’s too late for me to turn back when

One of his friends pop out from a tree on the left,

And another friend from a car on the right

And they’re gonna start approaching me

Surrounding me, closing in on me, pressing me,

And there’s only one thing that I can (3 deep fast breathes) do.

Imuh P-P-P-P-Pull out my bible, open it up and read.

He’s gonna ask me for my money, so imuh start reading louder;

“SON OF MAN, CAN THESE BONES LIVE?”

He’s gonna be like “ayo homie, ayo homie, gimme ya money boy!

Ayo homie, ayo homie, ayo this kid’s crazy.”

They gonna think I’m crazy

“this kid’s crazy!”

they gonna think I’m crazy.

(deep voice) “yo man, we don’t got time for this”

(lighter voice) “shut up man.

Ayo homie, ayo homie, you wasting my time!...

Ayo let’s get out of here”

And they’re gonna walk away.

They think I’m crazy

And they’re gonna walk away

They think. I’m crazy.

And they’re going to walk. Away.

And imuh put my bible back in my pocket…

Pause my music, just for a moment…

And imuh get on my knees and pray…

“when I say to a wicked man”- who’s the wicked man?

I am.

You see, I feed myself alibis to justify my sins in order to live with myself

Son of man,.. can these… bones… live?
