Going Back

November 28, 2015

Time, ephemeral yet stagnant, bids summer adieu-

the dreaded hour has arrived.

Hallways teeming with angst

and the desire to fast forward to the a simpler time.

Teachers will hand out assignments like balloons-

only these balloons need to be eight to ten pages long and are due next week.

The neophytes, unaware of the gravity of their immaturity,

act standoffish and brash in an attempt to cover up their jitters.

Amalgamating in the center of the hallway, girls who crave attention

banter in the most inconvenient location to assert their dominance.

The now-perceived meek, internally potent, are looked down on by the inept-

but the roles will be reversed in a later chapter.

For some, this period is a trough.

For others, a peak.

But it doesn’t last forever.

The doors open, the bell rings, the first day of school commences-

and the students wait with ambiguous thoughts for what the year has in store.
