The Path
In boisterous flight I ran
Ran to freedom
to the wind
In the air I found my courage
In my heart I knew my destination
I looked to the north
And found beauty
The crisp air of the alabaster mountains
Tussles through the weight of my anchored spirit
A warmth from the evergreen pine
brushes against my outstretched hand
And I hear a song
Echoing in the canyons and valleys
I climb I climb to the top
And see the whole of Gods creation
Blanketed in the plains of the air
And I run
I run to the west and to the east
The road of a thousand miles
Becomes unwound in age and youth
My brow beads with the sweat of my forbearance
I find nothing but the goodness of God
And his mercy
When I beheld the wonders of his handiwork
I held out my hand
And she took it
In our covenants we built
A lasting companionship
In our young hands we held
The endless realm of possibility
The sturdy awe of the vast and powerful cities
I hold my spirit and soul in
In my soul I felt sick
And I turned in each direction
My head spun
Each road calling
Every path beckoning
Was it my longing for the sound of crashing waves
Or the ceaseless trails of earth and trees
My life had marked this world
In the print of wisdom and faith
I closed my eyes and listened
To God or love or faith
I heard it whisper
And I flew
I spread my wings and soared
Fleeting to the south
To The land of my forefathers
And I breath
The dirt in which I stand weeps at my return
It cries My son My son
You've been away so long
The soul of the cities welcome me
In song and dance and drink
My life blood grew warm
In my culture
My birthright
It was a place I knew seldom before
the sound of a song
Of laughter
Of contentment
I lifted my eyes to the heavens
I could see His smiling face
I gave thanks in God's name
I thanked Him for my home
