A Million Winters Back

April 5, 2015

I'm trying to remember the hollows of your neck
On that uneventful day
A million winters back

You I and I would sit alone for hours in your room
Lying on our backs and singing 'Exactly Where I'm At'

There's not much to consider now
Except how I did propose
The idea of your slavery
And how your eyes did close
And whisper to me gently
"We are all slaves here"
And that is when I noticed
Myself trembling with fear

Now I circle subway trains
And search for life's meaning
Discovering nothing more than uncertainty

Don't ask me to sing to you
Tell you how I am
There's nothing but a shell here
Of the person I have been
