Dear Abe

February 12, 2018

Dear Abe,

The unifier, the Great Emancipator, how did you do it sir?

Our nation split apart tearing at the seams and you brought it all back together

I don’t know how you could have mended that

Sometimes it feels like I can’t mend my own life

High School, Relationships, College, and general strife

But you brought a broken nation back together, freed the slaves, reconstruction, your praise is sung wherever

Free men live and wherever men yearn to be free

It may have been 7 score and thirteen years but you will always be

My hero, the hero of all people

Your words ring out like those at a church steeple

And you inspire me Mr. Lincoln, you really do

Because if you could bring a nation together then maybe I can too

Maybe one day I can move past my strife and pain

Maybe someday your words will reign

Supreme, above all the hate

And even if I still have time to wait

I’ll never forget you, and what you did

If you could bring 31 million together I can fix the life of just one kid

Then when my life is fixed I can help others

I can spread your message with all my sisters and brothers

We’ll never forget, all those you freed

Hey Abe, this is from my heart for you from me

I’ll remember your words, and I’ll never stop thinking

We can all make the world a better place, if we act like Abe Lincoln

Sincerely, Paul
