A Cab Ride

September 27, 2019

Sitting in the back of a black Honda Accord

We were taking a ride across the city.

We saw forests of skyscrapers on each side

We saw an overpass--illuminated red

Like an artery filled with blood,

“A civilized city,” you said.

And I smiled, a smile you couldn’t see

Cause we were sitting side by side

Side by side, soul to soul.

We were taking a cab ride across the city.
