Poverty (Philanthropy-Free Verse)

March 28, 2016

Sitting there starving and feeling hopeless. Trying to take your mind off the hunger raging inside you like a tornado, causing chaos everywhere it goes. Your parents trying to do everything in their power to get even a single piece of bread just to feed their precious child. Not having a shelter or a dwelling to live under. Sleeping of the rough, hard, dirt floor instead of a relaxing bed. Waiting for death like a child waiting for jack to come out of his box, just so you can be relieved of your pain and agony. But of course I'm only guessing what it feels like because what would I know about being poor. How would I possibly know when I'm living under a roof that protects me from rain and thunder, I have a fridge piled with food which I can access anytime I'm hungry, I have a wardrobe full of clean clothes suitable for any time of year. I have a warm, comfortable bed with clean sheets and a blanket to protect me from the inevitable fear of monsters under my bed from when I was a child I have unnecessary things like IPads, laptops, computers, phones, TV's only there for the one purpose, my entertainment, yet to the rich children of the 21st century having all these things is a necessity even though you can live without it.

Instead of being cruel, selfish and greedy what we should do is give money to charity even if it is only $1 because that $1 could save a life or we could give our old clothes that don't fit us anymore to charity so that someone else who isn't as fortunate as us and can't afford proper clothing can wear it. All we have to do is share but apparently that is asking too much of mankind because unfortunately we think that being rich makes us superior to the poor. When we should notice that no matter what country we're from, what our skin colour is, what food we eat, what language in which we speak in and how different we look from one another we are all still the same, but mankind isn’t equal anymore, we have thrown away our equality just like we have our respect for each other because if we had we would be treated fairly. Yet why aren't we all treated the same? Why?
