Undertones

June 2, 2018

Undertones

I’m drowning in

the undertones

of red and grey,

blue, and gold.

I’m drowning in the

undertones

of every little detail,

slip of paper,

piling of the sleeves.

I’m drowning in

the undertones

of your mummering voice

settled ever so gently in my ear,

hearing the faint happiness,

and cries of our life.

I’m drowning in

the undertones,

and can no longer breathe fire.

You’ve suffocated me long enough,

and it’s time to let this go.
