Lonesome Star

September 24, 2013

What things we see with eyes

Can oftentimes deceive

But words within our hearts

Scoff at the 'can't believe'.

The rhythms, rhymes, and reasons

Of heartbeats throbbing through

Defy the common knowledge

Of things that are not true.

The children singing songs

And babies dreaming dreams

Are spinning stuff of legend

In minds that know no seams.

Some scoff at rhyme and reason

And sniff at dwarves and elves

Their faeries live in lands of lies

Their books are on the shelves.

But know they, constant mockers

Of magic in the air?

Of wizards, lore, and legend

Of maidens, gold and fair?

No logic, life or lording,

Which constant always are

Can testify the longing laugh

Of every lonesome star.

So scoffers who are 'genius'

And sniffers who are 'great'

Become instead the foolish men

Whose duels are with fate.

But long live children singing!

And babies dreaming dreams!

For they're magicians' nephews-

For them, life knows no seams.
