The Elephant named Giraffe

May 10, 2013
She never even knew what the world had waiting for her She wandered, aimlessly, and carelessly This girl, she wore a stitched on smile like it was her job Every morning she put herself together, Stuck her tattered heart into one, failing to keep it secure. A piece of her, torn from her chest and shot into the sky, She fell beneath the ground, an all-time low. And for a while… …..a really long while, this is where she lie. It was where you could find her, without fail. One day, she finally picked up her head. Long enough to drag her grieving feet to the cemetery. Visiting her little piece of heaven. Radiating emotion, feeling with every nerve of her being. Her cries were heard and her pain felt. That angel earned her wings that day. Words of comfort flooded her ears, Her angel’s voice one last time. Touching that girl with such energy, all she could do was grin, reminisce. Her heart felt warm once again. Her smile, no longer stained of guilt. Confusion diluted to acceptance. Tears of despondency held their nature, but drained her negativity. And after that period of darkness, Where nothing seemed concrete, and everything was hazed, an irrepressible peace settled in her head. That girl became me. Able to remember and smile, instead of cry. Respecting fate from a distance, While choosing my own path. Learning every day, Why failure is essential. The only way to climb higher, Is to never look down. What it means to feel sadness, Is nothing close to true heartbreak. Reflection is healing. Denial will be your downfall, and acceptance, your antidote. Broken hearts heal, And with the right medicine, grow to be twice as strong.
