I am a word

March 22, 2023

I am a word

I wonder when I will be needed; when I will be heard and taken seriously

I hear the other words that are used and listen to them, yet cannot relate to their experiences

I see the people that use me and yet none of them have needed me

I want to be remembered like all other words that are spoken

I am a word

I pretend that when I am used, they are grateful, but they are not

I feel like I have not helped when I am used, like I am not relevant to the sentence they have spoken

I touch and reach out to the punctuation, for they are needed for each sentence

I worry about how long I will remain unspoken and unneeded

I believe in the person speaking, I believe that I will be needed eventually

I am a word

I understand why I am not relevant to the sentence as much as the other words

I say in my thoughts that I am needed when I am not

I dream of the day they will say my name

I try to speak, but I cannot say a word to anyone without them

I hope that one day they will need me

I am a word.
