Able, not an Inspiration.

I am not an inspiration

I never was and never will be

Which is why I grow tired of polite smiles

insisting that I am.

What am I?

A person.

What am I?

A hardworking, determined athlete.

I am NOT my wheelchair.

Feel free to compliment its design

But remember there's more to me as well;

namely my mind.

I have done more than most my age;

I've travelled the world

Competed for the national team

All with only two hands

whereas most have two feet.

Some say it is impossible what I do

I say it's just life.

To me using my hands as you use your feet

accomplishes more, if not the same.

Most of all, I'd love it if instead of calling me inspiring

you would call me by my name.

it's Jessica, and I won't call myself inspiring

But I'm sure you would do the same.
