In time when there was civil unrest
The efforts of one man helped save an entire race
The works of this man, I must confess

Showed an American community oppressed
How to fight without landing blows on the human face
Killing the enemy with kindness, in the hope of racial progress

From boycotts to marches, he had a dream of freedom, yes
Freedom from discrimination because I don't have a white face
He spoke in Washington to a nation of divided interest

Not afraid of meeting an impasse
He took the first steps of equality when there was no staircase
By teaching non-violent reform to the masses

He believed that no man is better than the rest
For a nation to love each other without disgrace
With equality flourishing from east to west

King fell with the vision of America with racial egress
No matter your background, you must embrace
The achievements of one man during distress

Now, in a time when there is love without disgrace
All I can say to a man who fought civil unrest
Is thank you for your diligence
