Should you look at me as if I come from another planet?
My feet are scarred as if there was power behind my sprint.
My legs are weary of the days chores, like they were replaced with noodles.
My back is covered in stripes of red

Is it my face that startles you?
Dried streaks of sweat and terror would prove frightening to you,
However it is also my body that takes caution around you

Do you scare me, miss?
Your curls and perfect humor, compared with my nappy brown
Your demeanor is lovely, my hands are rough from the harvest.

All I ask is for a glass of water?
If I never obtain anything from you, miss may I please have a drink
Wait, where are you going?

My exhale of relief combined with the fear of my body's decomposition
I invite you miss, to do as I have done
We shall see if you can bear. you will have to one day.
I've earned it. You wake up with a glass at the foot of your bed
