Among the Skies

As I am comforted by the soft white clouds that kiss my wings I look down.
I look down and see my past
For I was once bound to the ground and without hope.
Every day was old and repeated.
Every breath was short and tired.
Every dream was shattered and tarnished.
And as I would walk the ground I would look up, envying those above me;
Those who soared the great blue skies,
And those who were close enough to hear the light whisper of the moon saying “Good Night”.
While on the ground my flesh was withering, my heart was yearning, and my soul was awaiting to be taken.
And because I was black, so were my days.
And because I was dark, so was my future.
And because we were different we were deprived the same.
But one day the skies opened and I was granted the wings of my desire.
My reach was now limitless and my life was given meaning,
I was able to glide amongst the clouds and sing to the melodies of the warming sun.
My soul was uplifted, my heart was full, because I could fly.
