The Battle

Lift every voice and sing
‘Til earth and Heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of…

Liberty.
That’s what our ancestors
Gave their lives for.
Over 100 years of fighting
And the battle still
Hasn’t quite been won.

And it won’t be.
Not until we realize
We aren’t really free.

We aren’t free
Until we’re always treated
Equally.
We aren’t free
Until mothers can send
Their children
To school without fear of discrimination.

We aren’t free
Until I can honestly say
That I wasn’t picked
Because I wasn’t qualified.
We aren’t free
Until all traces of discrimination
Have finally died.

That’s when we have
Liberty.

Facing the rising sun
Of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is

Won.
