Be a Friend

There are some children I know

Who just want to belong.

I wonder why it is so wrong

For people to accept them for what they show.

Some are labeled as "special" or "different"

While others are seen as "weird".

There is a time coming that I have long feared

Where these children will never be looked at as "brilliant".

Often they cannot talk

Or they need help to socially be

It is up to us to help them, only we

Are the ones who can put confidence in their walk

So if you see a child

Who you would normally see as inferior

Be the one who looks beyond the exterior

And be their friend-wouldn't that be wild?
