She lifted her face towards heaven,

And her tears mingled with those of the sky.

The dense air surrounded and pressed in upon her

And she gasped for breath as her last hopes died.

As hopeless despair crumbled her heart,

She fell to her knees and pressed her face to the ground.

She gave up on life and for the very first time

This lost little lamb wished to be found.

Although she felt abandoned, her tears didn't fall unnoticed,

And though she felt alone, her tears didn't fall ignored.

For she was forever in the arms of her Father, her Shepherd,

And with His guidance she could be restored.

The Shepherd's heart had never turned against her,

And His loving eyes never glanced away.

Instead He patiently awaited her acceptance,

And began to deliver her from her pain.

She slowly brought herself back to her feet

As sudden peace gave her the strength to stand.

In the midst of the downpour God's love was like sunshine,

And she reached to take His outstretched hand.

The thunder rumbled above in the heavens

As all the angels stood to their feet.

"Holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,

For a broken heart has been made complete!"

She lifted her face towards heaven,

And her tears mingled with those of the sky.

She laughed out loud and heaven danced-

God had answered her heart cry.

I enjoyed this poem to a large extent and feel that you put some hard work into it. I just want to say kudos and ask a question: was this referring to you?

Thank you! I wrote this a few years ago, and it definitely took some work to make sure it communicated the message I intended it to. And yes, to a certain degree this refers to me, but honestly I think it could refer to anyone who has given their life to Christ.

Though I was raised Christian, I certainly am not very religious anymore. I have my own issues with the subject matter but when it comes to poems I find that many people use to as a sort of Psalm. To thank God for the help they have been given from Him, as well as the love he gave to them. This was a great piece thank you so much for sharing it!

Becca.

Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.  You're right- poetry is definitely a common way to express feelings towards God.  Sometimes any other way just doesn't seem to contain enough emotion to do Him justice.
