Beware of Pirates

Beware of pirates, for they are thieves.

And I’m not talking about the ones with eye patches and a wooden peg for a leg who sails the seas day and night. No.

I’m talking about the ones who hide their greed and their malice on the inside. The ones who have practice the art of trickery since the day they spoke their first words. Who’ve committed crimes far worse than murder.

The ones who ride in on white horses; who sweep us off our feet and make us feel like princesses.

Too quickly do we trust them. Too quickly do we believe they are the one.

Too quickly do we give them the key to our hearts.

Then later we find they only wanted to take the treasure and run.

We find we have marked our own bodies with a big black X just for them.

We have hung the target around our necks and called out to them.

Then after he leaves, we are left stranded on an island alone;

The hole already covered back up and the treasure stolen.

Then another comes along on his white horse.

He helps you off the sand stained with your tears.

He looks different, he’s still the same.

They are all the same.
