Bleeding Heart

“Bah dump Bah dump”:
The beating of empathy’s heart,
Open to all pain,
Not walled up, protected or smart.
Every toil of nice
Becomes empathy’s vice.
He can’t be protected
Like those hearts of ice.
Apathy’s heart is protected,
Shrouded with walls of steel.
Apathy’s heart isn’t endangered
Because he cannot feel.
Raw emotion and love
Courses through its veins,
Much so more susceptible to
All of this life’s pains.
Empathy strives to do right
Works against his fate
With all his might.
There’s not much of a fight.
With so much kindness,
This heart does overflow
And in it there is so much
Good will that does grow.
For every good deed,
The heart does beat fast.
If this pattern continues
Not much longer will it last.
Stitches scar the poor heart,
Evidence of this saint’s life.
Tried to mend, postpone its end,
But it couldn’t stand the strife.
With each beat, each act
The heart’s threads loosen bit by bit.
Never will he end his crusade.
There is no saving it.
TWANG!
Feed the poor,
Clothe the needy.
Strings pull some more.
RIP!
Two loves, never apart
One fades, empathy thrives.
Strings crush the heart.
SNAP!
Never ending charity.
Strings fall and heart breaks
All because of the blessings.
Loving too much,
That was his sin.
So the heart did break
And that was his end.
