The blindness that so easily besets

Hebrews 13:5 New King James Version (NKJV)

5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He, Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The blindness that so easily besets

I did not see you yesterday while You were in my presence

You walk with me all the time as I travel in circles

It seems so strange to understand that my selfishness, in essence

It Is like a nursery rhyme with every word and thought a hurdle

You walked hand in hand with me, and I had no awareness

Sunken deep in thought of what to do in the time allotted

How can I ever in the “future”  be more formed in Your Likeness?

If I get lost in self so easily in forms of service so ill-begotten

Where to go from here, my friend, as the ‘Narrow Path” seems to widen?

Intersecting with the highway that seems to be traveled by so many

Just around the approaching bend, another choice that frightens

My guilt drives me to pay “for what is free” with a useless penny
