Chai

Location

Have you ever fallen in love with a simple routine?

Waking up to the warm glow of the sun,

Slipping out of bed with a whisper and a yawn,

Feet touching the lovely cool floor.

It’s such a simple act,

But walking into that sunlit hall,

Sitting at the kitchen table,

Hands gently grasping that beautifully painted cup…

It’s something special.

Falling in love is just too easy.

As my fingers run over the familiar curve of the handle,

I remember doing just the same when you were still mine

And as I watch the steam rise and curl into nothingness,

I remember the way I took your breath away ask if it was some sort of game.

When I lift the cup to my lips,

I’m reminded of how you would sit across from me,

And drink your tea every morning.

As I take that first scolding sip,

I feel the same warmth in my chest,

As only your flushed smile could give me.

I realize it’s just a cup of tea,

Chai tea, specifically,

But it’s more than just a comfort.

Chai means life,

And that’s what I drink in the mornings,

That’s who I remember so lovingly.

So it’s much more than just a cup of tea,

It’s her. And it’s everything I have left.
