Creativity
Creativity is a child with finger paint
Making a picture. She knows what it’s of,
even if the grownups can’t see it.
Creativity isn’t in the box
Or a bit outside the box
It’s a m i l e and 2 flights of s
t
a
i
r
s
Away from the box.
Or maybe even more.
Creativity is a BIG w h i t e piece of paper
Where you can doodle
Or splatter paint
Or write a song
Or tell a story
Or just think
Creativity is a daydream written down
Maybe improbable
And Maybe unrealistic
But never impossible
Creativity is playing violin for fun
My Bach solo
With a bit of Mozart
Quick switch to Pop
Throw in some Jazz
A finale of Christmas music
And messing up is not allowed. Because you can’t mess up.
Creativity is a math problem
Done in a roundabout way, maybe
A ten minute process, not a two minute one
But, still, the answer in the end
Anyone can see shapes in the clouds
How about in a wrinkly shirt?
Or an abstract doodle?
Or the veins of a leaf?
A brainstorm is an outpouring of creativity
From the clouds of the mind
And trying to catch it in buckets that never overflow
Creativity means dreaming BIGGER
And having an o p e n m i n d
And never forgetting the child with the finger paint.
