Evangeline's 5th Birthday

Wake up sleepy head! It’s your birthday today!
Wow can you believe it? It’s the first of May.
With her mono azul ojos she asked how old will I be? ?Cuanto?
I looked abajo and told her this will be your 5th year; cinco ano.
Then she looked arriba and said is that tan?
“!Ci chica!” I told her, Isn’t that muy gran!?”
We will throw a big party,
And invite Uncle Marty,
To help us celebrate your 5th birthday
Oh my sweet daughter! Does that sound okay?
To the left, across the hall, down the stairs.
To stop her prancing feet, nobody dares.
Her sweet precious little head is abounding with joy and glee,
Excitement and anticipation, as far as I can see
Lindo, bonita, chica, you are my hija
At this point in time, it’s my growing girl’s dia.
Like you, I am excited too, mira at my huge smile.
Nervousness and joy on one’s face, it must be daddy Kyle.
Then my Eva said to me, “ Mama, que hora es?”
I answered, “guests should be arriving, it’s almost tres”.
A knock at the door, who could it be?
None other than Papa and Mimi.
Out bursts a sound from the noisy door bell,
There’s uncle Marty, and young primo Mel.
Rat-a-tat-tat, says the door once again.
In comes tia Becky, and tio Ben.
La familia is all here, loudly we will start to sing
My dear Evangeline feels royal, as a queen or a king.
Singing has ended, the cake is all done,
It’s time to open presents, tons of fun!
With her dancing azul eyes, she stares up at us all,
Thinking “what presents did I get? Perhaps a new doll!?”
Eva opened her primero gift from her favorite tio,
Under all that paper, a purse as big as a rio!
Next, a hairtie the color de el mar
Papa said aloud, “we hope you gustar!”
Mimi added the color es muy bold, bright and bella!
Ci, ci chimed in my hija, the littlest is ella
From primo Mel came a microphone she’ll use cantar
Out of her pequeno pink mouth came the word “amar”!
How she longed to play with her new toy,
But I had to tell her, “no, not hoy!”
Sweet girl, the day is done, I hope you enjoyed it all,
Even without receiving a pretty, brand new doll.
Eva said, wait, mama, what is this, under my bed!?
Another gift! Yes! A new doll, happily she said!
Evangeline, save the best for last is what they say,
But God gave me you, my darling, on the first of May!
