Extended Stay

Smoke fills my nose.
The sweet scent tempting, calling me closer.

But no! Stay away, your mom and your dad are finally proud of you.
"We're glad you didn't end up like your brother."

They say.

"Drugs are bad for you; Do you want a hit? They will ruin your life; Your best friend's in the back..."

My days were scattered with trembling hands reaching for candies the color of the rainbow,
shapes and sizes made no difference.

I have lived in a Winter Wonderland, even in the middle of summer.

"It's just weed why are you making such a big deal out of it?"

My body is the big deal, my lungs crackling each time a sliver of air is released,
My hands that tremble without reason, and my mind;
That has deteriorated since the day that I decided to set foot on Ecstasy Island.

My life was scheduled full of late nights and early mornings,
cop cars, and angry parents.

Don't,

Tell me that I'm making a big deal.

"I'm better Mom, I'm better."

"I promise, I'm better."

The smoke fills my lungs, a too familiar taste.
Their eyes follow me as I dance in euphoria,
the whites of them turning red as the high hits.
