Greatness
Alexander the Great
Katherine the Great
Why were they "great" when others were not?
What made them synonymous with greatness?
Who decides what defines greatness?
Is greatness achieved when building civilizations?
Watching countries burn, or conquering the world?
Is greatness when one finally achieves self-actualization?
Is it not GREAT to build the minds of the young?
Is it not GREAT to mend the wounds of the old?
Is it not GREAT to help people break down their walls?
To stop wars from escalating tenfold?
WHO DECIDES WHAT DEFINES GREATNESS?
Who has the RIGHT to deem someone's deeds BETTER than another's?
Who thinks they DESERVE the power to define what's GREAT?
Who is so POWERFUL they can RUIN self-worth in others?
GREATNESS takes many forms
NOT just the one of the public figures in history
It's in every DOCTOR, every TEACHER
Whose names are a mystery
GREATNESS takes many forms
NOT just the forms that change the world's fate
It's in every OFFICER, every FIREMAN
Who take on the world, at a very heavy weight
DON'T TELL ME GREATNESS IS IN FEW
TRUE greatness is the everyday
It's the BATTLES, not the WARS
It's always there in everyone, but in each a different way
So, tell me this...
WHO DECIDES WHAT DEFINES GREATNESS?
Who gets to be REMEMBERED as great?
Who sings praises of the EVERYDAY greatness?
Who inspires in others this needless self-hate?
If you find them, let me know
I would like a word or two
To sing the praises of the world
That's right, the many, not the few
