Happy

I heard my mom say I don't write happy poetry

And I guess I don't

I write honest poetry.

But I guess today I'll write an honest happy poem…..

I'm happy.

I'm happy I love myself now

Happy I taught myself to.

I'm happy because of where I been

And where I'm going.

I'm happy I haven't made the same mistakes you made.

I'm happy I wasn't given the chance to.

I'm happy I'm independent,

Even if it means am alone at times.

I'm happy I know myself,

Happy I see it like it is.

I'm happy I value my intellect and humor more than my beauty now.

I'm happy you don't,

You're not meant to.

I'm happy because now I know.

You don't deserve to know me beyond my outward beauty.

I'm happy I'm free from the likes of you,

From emotional instability and submission.
