Is He Scary?

There once was a girl,

 Who lived with another,

Both of these girls

 Lived with their mother.

The younger of the two,

 Age three at most,

Inquired to her Mother

 About the Holy Ghost.

"Is He mean?" She asked,

 "Is He scary or sly?"

"No, He isn't like that."

 The mother replied.

The older daughter,

 Age five at least,

Asked her the question,

"Is He a great hairy beast?"

The mother just laughed,

 And smiled as she spoke.

"No, my dear sweetheart,

 He is a friendly ghost!"

The younger of the two

 Stared with a grin.

"If that is so,

 Why can't we see Him?"

"Because," Came the answer,

 "He speaks to your heart.

You know He is there,

 He's been from the start."

The elder girl

 Began to disagree.

"No," said her mother,

 "Listen to me!

The Holy Ghost guides you,

 Makes sure you do right.

He lights up your path,

 Even at night.

He's the voice in your head,

 Urging you on.

He's the sadness you feel,

 When you do something wrong.

The Ghost is a friend,

Not a foe in the least.

In fact, He's the One

 Who fights off the beast!"

"But Mother," said the older,

 "I don't understand.

How could a monster

 Be such a friend?"

"It's like this, big sister!"

 The younger one said,

"God is the Ghost,

So the Ghost is not dead!"

The mother looked down

 At her daughter with pride,

"Yes, my sweet darling!

 That is exactly right!"
