To Hear You Say

I thought of you when I was lonely.

I smiled at your picture in my mind.

I laughed with you and we shared our vented feelings-

our Joys, our Sorrows, our Angers.

I wish we could walk side by side

all the way and back again.

I wish we were flowers on the same stem,

not differents flowers so we cannot be removed.

Yet I will someday walk away from you,

     or you from I,

and though we won't like it we'll take it in stride

and I'll think of you when I'm lonely.

I will want you to see all that I've done,

       my accomplishments, my soul.

So you can say that you are still proud of me-

        Proud to be my friend.
