A Journey

Embarked on

In the early dawn of life

At first guiding

By loving hands

Teaching hands

But now dark road stretches out unending

No one to lean on

Hopeless, tired, alone

The mind whispers “one last effort”

Knees fall upon the ground

Hands clasped tightly before

Tentative thoughts tiptoe

Across tongue’s border

A sacrifice of loneliness

A boat on an unknown sea

Looking for the promised light

Searching, knowing there is more

A soft hope, gently blown into life

Kindled into steady flame

Pushes the search forward

Waiting, in forgotten silence

Almost giving up but...at last!

A still small voice whispers to

The hopeful heart

Guidance and light

Encouraging the tired soul

You can do it

The path in front is not so dark

Smiling forgotten faces

Glimmer where no one used to be

Hope fills the empty heart

Energy electrifies the soul

Purpose brought to mind

The shoes regain purchase

and the first step falls
