The Hermit of Hyde Hollow

Some folks see her in the window,

just a shadow standing there.

Some folks hear her in the morning

when she sings her daily prayer,

but they’ve never really met her

and she likes it just that way.

For she’s safe inside her cabin

where no other can betray.

She’s a poet, she’s a bard,

and life for her has been too hard,

still she’s tougher than most folks will ever see.

She’s a mother, she’s a wife,

and she’s struggled all her life,

still she’ll keep her secrets under lock and key.

Some folks say that she is crazy,

just a woman gone insane.

Some surmise she was abandoned

and that’s why she hides in shame.

Still they do not know the truth,

yet they really like to wallow

in the misery of the woman

who’s the hermit of Hyde Hollow.

She’s a poet, she’s a bard,

and life for her has been too hard,

still she’s tougher than most folks will ever see.

Folks can talk behind her back,

but inside her little shack

she will keep her secrets under lock and key,

she will keep her secrets under lock and key…
