I love this country

My home

That I never felt quite welcome in

Though I had every reason

(Being white, middle-class, and pretty)

My home

That I hated for a time

For reasons I couldn't name

(Being queer, unbeknownst to me, for a time)

My home

That hurts to think about too deeply

But I can't help but learn why

(Being unfair, a little to me, a lot to many)

It's a home to me, but why?

Me
My country
