Homeless

Oh to be home, if there is such a place
Such an abstract thought
A home, a sacred abode
Safe from harm and fears
Distant from stress and tears
A thing that will warm your heart
And cater to your soul
Where the world melts away
Inspiring you to seize the day
An escape and an anchor in a vast sea

Yet we're driven to hasten away
Leaving all behind for gain
Alas we find ourselves lost
We awake and are alone
Each day facing the unknown

Who are we
What have we become
We forget from whence we came
We lose the love that drives
Yearning for what we knew
But realizing it's gone

Damned to wander as strangers
Each day facing new dangers
Lost to ourselves and fighting alone
Merely existing in time and drifting
Our hearts beat dull and hollow
This is life: unending sorrow

This poem is about:
Me
Our world

Comments

Ted Austin

I wrote this poem to remind that no matter how far we stray we have to remember our families, cultures, and personal values. When we forget what we come from we lose a piece of ourselves, and can at times lose sight of where we were headed in the first place.
