I Am Coal
I am coal, gritty and black,
put under thousands of pounds of pressure-
a mind that decided
that happiness would be too easy,
a parent that decided
loving me was too hard,
a love that decided
boys weren't enough,
a drug addiction that decided
i wouldn't need any parents now,
a world that decided
giving me the easy road is not an option.
I am pushed, pressured, pressed
into a mold in which I do not fit in.
Underneath it all, I am carbon-
and I'll be damned
if my metamorphosis doesn't change me
into the diamond
that all this pressure promised.
