I Do Not Greet The Day

I do not greet the day.

As many have said before me

And is likely that many will after say so as well,

I like my sleep.

And to hear my alarm clock ringing in all its shrillful singing glory,

and as it trys to implore me, screaming, "Get Up and Greet the Day for Me!"

All I hear in my mind is, "It's Okay; Five More Minutes."

Yet, still I abandon my peaceful friend and ready myself, all to attend

To the will of a morning person. To the one who ends

Your lovely fantasies and makes you face your realities.

And so I start my day,

Preparing for it to be a great one, like always.

And yet, the question still remains, "What Causes us to Greet the Day?"

What causes all of our desires to fufill what society requires

And get out of bed each morning?

Could it be the fact that we believe we have better destinies,

And the very fact that we exist means something in a world like this?

Are we here for a reason?

And if so, we feel, it would be an act of high treason

To waste this amazing gift we've been given and wish

It had been delivered to another address.

Maybe, perhaps, its our fear of inactivity,

And our belief that we must be remembered to be worth anything.

So we work ourselves in hopes that can achieve

To be the best there possibly could be?

Either statements above could be easily as true,

Howvever, I believe it's up to me and you to decide on our fates.

Whether we want to be remembered or not,

Or we feel we owe it to someone to be great.

We choose. We decide.

And yes, initially I do not Greet the Day, but that doesn't mean I don't embrace it,

For I believe it's okay to love every part of it, every moment.

So I will enjoy my day, Alarmclock.

However that does not mean I will enjoy you.
