I Love You

Your back swings towards the window,

early morning sun peeping into your room.

i never thought i would see Your halo

wrapped around Your neck so tight.

Your broken nails drip crimson regret

that made You fight Your last moment,

scratched into the frayed rope...

where You remembered the words

that i used to console You, whispered

so You would feel them on my lips.

or maybe You were just scared.

my hands shake as I pull You down,

cradle You in my arms this last time.

a soft kiss on your forehead, against auburn bangs,

with a ghost of an apology on a trembling breath.

cracked eyes flood with the loss

of Your light to my shadow, and

my lips already miss that late night kiss.

if i had known Your monster would twist them,

i never would have whispered those words

to save Your desperate, burdened heart.
