Ladder of success

Philippians 2:3

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Ladder of Success (phil)

You are one of us now

Looking up the ladder ... could it be mine?

Seeing men go up one step and some two at a time.

Wondering or pollution starts … as from the ground they rise

as some try on talent first … and later they compromise.

Is it the first step up … that shows you to look down?

You're special now … and not part of the herd of clowns.

You're different now above other folks … not like them at all.

You concentrate on the next step ... and make sure you won’t fall.

As you climb the ladder … changing towards that special breed.

You will become like them … moving where they have been.

You gave up self and everything … for what you want to be.

Enslaved to your wishes … as from your own you flee.

Looking up and hanging on … the only thing you see

is the behind of the one above … one day you’ll be "he".

The only part you can kiss now … is the part you like to freeze,

so the odor would not be as strong … as you compromise in deed.

And looking down there is … the head of him who follows.

When your foot needs some rest … you step on that fellow.

You are starting to like it … now you're just like the rest.

It does not matter anymore … that the herd does its best.

The herd, who are they?  I was never part of them!

Look at me! I passed the test ... I’m superior pro-tem!

I'm of this world ingrained in it … and always in my need,

I develop ways searching for clues … to make others just like me.
