A Letter To My Future Daughter: Jasey Rae

Jasey Rae

My fingers have been scribbling the fine lead on my paper

Back and forth back and forth

In efforts to try and mold out the exact words from my brain

I want to eventually say to you

So that you can live a life with no damage

You see I’ve had your name picked out for you since I was fourteen years old

Upon daydreaming amongst the clouds in the sky

I came across a name I wanted to set aside only

For you

Jasey Rae

Jasey Rae, I want to raise you to see the beauty on this planet

To dance around in the sunlight beaming onto your tan skin

Dance around barefoot in the damp soil of the earth

With flowers tucked through the strands of your hair

Sing with the birds and open your arms out wide enough to take in the fresh air around you

I want you to grow up as apart of nature itself

Because you are nature itself

You have come from the same stratosphere as those stars above you

Nothing less than the things that surround you

I will let you pick out your own clothes

Among the aisles of sequin shirts and shiny shoes

I will let you dress yourself how you want to express yourself

Because the only person you need to appeal to is yourself

Jasey Rae,

I want to hide you from the disconnecting world

Where everyone is absorbing off each other’s energy

Clinging to electronics longing for approval of each other

Jasey Rae it is easy to get sucked into the energy around you

Do not clone yourself to be like others

Do not lessen yourself to be just the same

Do not hide yourself

For Jasey,

You are made of stardust

A cousin to the stars themselves

I want you to find yourself in the waves of the ocean

Discover yourself through the beauty of nature

And love every part of yourself

enough to radiate the love you hold for yourself

out to the beings around you

And Jasey Rae,

Do not forget to

Endlessly create yourself

Stand your ground and

Do not let the opinions of others weigh you down

Do not forget where you came from

For you are the sunlight that lights my world

With all the fire in your soul

You can not let negativity break you down

The world may threaten to shape you up

To be just as they expect you to be

But you cannot conform to be a slave to society

Girls will be girls and

Boys will be boys

Drama will lurk and

Guys will be jerks

But when the stars don’t feel aligned

And the nights get lonely at times

I will always be here for you

Jasey Rae,

My fingers have been scribbling the fine lead on my paper

Back and forth back and forth

In efforts to try and mold out the exact words from my brain

I want to eventually say to you

So that you can live a life with no damage

But that's just the thing,

What’s a life with no damage?
