Love, Really?

HIM –

“We could be together if you didn’t have a baby”,

“I do what I want, you ain’t really my ole lady”

“Why you “like” that picture on Facebook, do you know that Cat?”

“You would be cuter if you wasn’t so black”

“So, I yell a little and shove you here and there”

“I wouldn’t do nothing to you at all if I didn’t care”

“Why you didn’t answer the phone? Who just called?”

“I didn’t push you that hard to make you fall”

“You look like a clown with all that makeup; it makes you look old”

“Stop making me mad all the time and I wouldn’t be so cold”

HER –

Because I love you so much I abandoned my son;

I knew you hated kids, so I didn’t won’t none.

Because I love you so much I let you disrespect me daily;

Although you didn’t claim me in public, I knew I was your lady.

Because I love you so much I deleted the social media site;

I shouldn’t have been on my cousins’ page; I didn’t mean to start a fight.

Because I love you so much I bleached my skin until it was sore to touch;

I felt since my skin was so dark, you didn’t love me as much.

Because I love you so much you hit me like a man, it was never a shove;

But once the beatings were over, you always showed me love.

Because I love you so much I understand that you wouldn’t hit me if you didn’t care;

I know aside from all our problems, you will always be there.

Because I love you so much I don’t answer the phone for family or my friend;

I know it upsets you now, I won’t make that mistake again.

Because I love you so much I know why you push me to the floor;

If I were smarter and didn’t nag so much, I would understand you more.

Because I love you so much I will never wear makeup when you are around;

In fact, I’ll never wear it again, you’re right, I look like a clown.

Because I love you so much I’ll find ways to be better and maybe you won’t have to be so cold;

I thank God for giving you to me; when He made you; He broke the mold.

CONDEMNATION

I loved you so much until your identity became mine;

I lost sight of everything; I even lost track of time.

It was only so much I could take before it came to a head;

Look at what you made me do; NOW YOU’RE DEAD!

I gave up everything for you but still you wanted more;

Just because I’m a soldier you didn’t have to put me through war.

True love doesn’t hurt, it’s not selfish, and it doesn’t fail;

The opposite of what we had because you put me through hell.

It’s all over now and I hate that it had to end this way;

But because I love me so much, I refuse to let you live another day!
