It wasn’t about striking back
Or even fighting the power
It wasn’t about the politicians
Or those who emanated their
Hatred.

It was fought through those
With hearts fiery
It was fought by steely words
And men with justice in their
Heart.

They tried to be equals
To kick out the stool beneath other’s feet
They tried to right the scales
And balance the world for
Peace.

It was about the boy
Who wanted to drink the white water
It was the mother
Seeing innocence turn to
Self-Loathing.

It was the grandmother
Tired, weary, wrinkled and worn.
It was the ache in her bones
Clambering to the back of the bus
Repressed.

It was the man
Standing before the emancipator
It was the man that shook mountains
His dreams changed the world for
Pride.

And now the scales are not level
The battles still rage
And now the hatred
Keeps itself well hidden,
Caged.

You and I fight this
We inherit the mantle
You and I keep his memory
And express to all the same
Love.

We all love. Only it took time to realize it.
